Why do girls do this?

Im a new yorker, Brooklyn all the way. I attend college and have a job, that means i meet new ppl ALL THE TIME!! every time i meet a girl the first thing they say is "hey my name is such and such" then silence take over the moment and then they pop up with "oh my gosh my boyfriend this and my boyfriend that blah blah blah blah" it got to the point that 9/10 girls does this.. if i meet a person ill like to no about THEM not the boyfriend.. Why do girls do this?????? (what makes it funny is when i tlk to a boy they never mention their gf they really talk about themself)
