Is my clmate right about music?

Today at school, we talked about our favorite artists and favorite genres. One of my clmates says she likes rap and she likes Akon,Lil Wayne and Flo Rida, personally I don't like rap but anyways: She asked what artists I like and I replied David Bowie,The Beatles,Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon. But she told me that they all suck and make crappy music, so she told me to start listening to rap, because its better she says. I thought "No way" But then what if she was right, I mean I don't think so, but still. What should I do?
