Black granite counter with dark chestnut cabinets?

I have dark chestnut cabinets and a white marble looking reflective tile floor. 5 recessed cans and under cabinet halogen lighting, in a small 15 by 11 kitchen, with an L shaped setup, light grey walls and some exposed brick. It also has a large window that lets in a good amount of natural light during the day. I want to go black granite counter tops but im afraid the dark and will make the kitchen look even smaller, should i play it safe and go white? No decision on backplash yet, im waiting for the counter color decision.... (i'm going for a modern look, with shaker style cabinets)
